The Aug. 19 editorial Widespread blame in state payroll flop outlined over $800 million wasted on two computer software systems. Look at the miserable job Caltrans has done on the Bay Bridge construction, which is billions over budget, poorly constructed and years behind schedule. It will also need millions of repairs and increased yearly maintenance due to the design flaws.
What do these things have in common? The answer is simple: Our state government is incapable of spending our tax dollars wisely or efficiently. Government has grown too large and is so poorly managed that there is no accountability for the waste. Where is Gov. Brown in all this? Shouldnt he be holding a press conference to share details on who is to blame and who will lose their jobs? Of course not, all these decision makers and spenders of other peoples money will still get their pensions, health care and promotions because the public never gets a peek behind the closed doors of Sacramento.
The next time you hear Sacramento crying poor and wanting to raise taxes, dont fall for their lies. Make them act as better stewards of our money before we give them any more.
