Modesto Nuts nudge closer to second half title

August 25, 2013

Jonathan Gray pitched five shutout innings and Taylor Featherston and Jared Simon knocked in two runs apiece to lead the Modesto Nuts to a 4-1 California League victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Sunday.

With their 12th victory in 13 games, the streaking Nuts reduced their magic number to clinch the second half North Division title division to six (over San Jose, which defeated Bakersfield 4-2 on Sunday). Modesto also lowered its number to clinch a wild card playoff berth to five games (over Stockton, which defeated Visalia 10-8 on Sunday).

Modesto has eight games remaining, seven of which are at home starting Tuesday night.
