CHP plans DUI checkpoints in unincorporated Merced County

August 21, 2013

— California Highway Patrol officers are planning DUI checkpoints Saturday in Merced County's unincorporated areas.

The sobriety checkpoints are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to a CHP news release.

Although DUI-related laws will be enforced in the checkpoint area, the checkpoint is primarily an educational effort to reduce the number of drunk drivers on highways, according to the release.

CHP officers will be contacting motorists in the checkpoint area by random selection. All motorists contacted will be given handouts with information about DUI-related laws and CHP safety programs.
