Kudos to the 300-plus organizers and participants at the recently conducted SCCA Autocross Races at the former Crows Landing Naval Air Station. I had already planned to attend when I saw the front-page Bee article ("All revved up," Aug. 11) in the paper.
The people were great, from volunteers to racers. Sign a waiver, don a helmet, find a willing driver and you could get a ride-along during an actual "hot lap." That was so much fun!
Within the safety rules, viewing access was unprecedented and up close and personal. It was truly an event for the whole family.
I hope the county agrees to provide increased access to the racers. It was a great use of an overlooked county asset. The event generated income for county coffers, spiked the local economy and was fun for everyone. If you love cars, you need to be at the next event. Oh, did I mention the admission was free?
