Modesto City Council committees to meet on budget

August 14, 2013

The Modesto City Council's Finance and Economic Development Committees will meet this afternoon to discuss how the city should spend the additional revenue if a 1 percentage point sales tax increase passes in November.

The Finance Committee also will discuss potential spending cuts if the tax measure fails.

The Economic Development meeting starts at 1 p.m.; Finance at 3 p.m. Both meetings are in Room 2008 at Tenth Street Place, 1010 10th St. In September, the City Council is expected to pass a resolution on how it intends to spend the tax money.

The city is proposing half for public safety, a quarter for roads, a tenth to rebuilding reserves and the remainder to parks and recreation and economic development.
