• HOMELESS VETERAN STAND DOWN FUND-RAISER

When: Friday, 6:30 p.m.

Where: Elks Lodge, 645 Charity Way

Info: The Modesto Elks Lodge 1282 is hosting a fund raising barbecue dinner/dance to benefit the Stanislaus County Homeless Veteran Stand Down. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Live music and dancing begin at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $15 per person. For more information or to buy tickets, call (209) 524-4421.

• FAMILY MOVIE NIGHTS

When: Fridays through Sept. 20 at dusk

• ALZHEIMER'S FUND-RAISER

When: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Walnut Grove Assisted Living Community, 2801 Lou Ann Drive.

Info: Walnut Grove Assisted Living Community will host a combination bake sale, garage sale, hot dog lunch and bike raffle in connection with the Walk to End Alzheimer's in September. Help Walnut Grove in its efforts to support Alzheimer's research. All are welcome. For more information, call (209) 575-1950.

• DEMOCRATIC CLUB MEETING

Info: The Turlock Democratic Club holds its regular monthly meeting on the second Wednesday of the month. The agenda this month will be a presentation from Dr. Susan Neufeld, director of the ABC Project. • KEEP MOVING FORWARD RUN/WALK

When: Saturday, 8 a.m.

Where: Galaxy Theater, 2525 Patterson Road

Info: 5th Annual Keep Moving Forward 5K & 10K Run/Walk benefiting Visually Impaired Persons Support, a local nonprofit organization devoted to assisting the visually impaired of Stanislaus County. Race courses are through a quiet residential neighborhood with some gently rolling hills. Run t-shirts and goodie bags available for all pre-registered runners. Snacks provided by O'Brien's Market. Pre-run warm-up directed by Shelly Medeiros with Get-U-Fit Wellness Center. Live music by Brittany Maynard. Pre-registration $25 through Aug. 15, $30 after Aug. 15 and on race day for either the 5K or 10K. Registration is available at www.active.com.
