Focus on Education (8-14-2013)

August 13, 2013

California's Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) assessments this year identified 242 schools where social media postings occurred during administration of the tests, the California Department of Education reports. Of those, 16 included postings of test questions or answers, including one at East Union High School in Manteca. None of the postings affected school test results. As in 2012, when 216 such postings occurred, most involved students posing with the covers of test booklets. Enochs, Downey, Turlock and Patterson high schools and Somerset Middle School in north Modesto's Sylvan district were among the schools that reported social media postings.

August is Children's Eye Health and Safety Month, and National Immunization Awareness Month, notes the California Department of Education. Women's Equality Day is Aug. 26.
