Delhi crash badly injures two men

August 2, 2013

— Two men are in critical condition after the vehicle they were traveling in went off the Bradbury Road overpass on Highway 99 and rolled over Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol in Merced.

The accident happened around 3:30 p.m., according to CHP spokesman officer Jason Schoonhoven.

The 50-year-old driver, from Delhi, was transported to a Modesto-area hospital. The passenger, a 68-year-old man from San Leandro, was taken to a Turlock hospital.

Schoonhoven said the vehicle, a black 1999 Chevy Tahoe, was traveling south on Highway 99 to Bradbury Road, and that the driver failed to stop at the end of the offramp and the vehicle drove off the overpass.

The SUV rolled over before landing on its roof, Schoonhoven said, and the driver and passenger sustained major injuries.

Traffic on Highway 99 was backed up for about half a mile Thursday, Schoonhoven said.

In an unrelated accident, a truck overturned and landed on its roof near Buhach and Ashby roads in Merced on Thursday afternoon.
