Modesto, Ceres prep for National Night Out

August 1, 2013

The Modesto Police Department, the city's Maddux Youth Center and Target will present the annual National Night Out on Tuesday at the Maddux Youth Center, 615 Sierra Drive, from 4 to 7 p.m.

The event is free and one of the many neighborhood block parties taking place throughout the nation in celebration of the National Night Out.

The block parties provide an opportunity to get to know your neighbors as they bring awareness of the importance of Neighborhood Watch and residents united against crime.

The Maddux Youth Center event will provide music, demonstrations, community resource booths, children's activities, free barbecue and refreshments.

Ceres' National Night Out will take place Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Community Center, 2701 Fourth St. The event is intended to bring together the community to talk about crime prevention and offer resources to residents.

Materials will be available regarding Neighborhood Watch, the police volunteer program, police and fire ride-alongs, the Explorer program and gang and auto theft prevention.

The Recreation Department will provide face painting, program sign-ups and book rentals. A variety of public safety vehicles, such as a fire engine, will be on display.
