Don't just give your money up

August 1, 2013

The article "Tax boost put to vote" (July 10, Page A-1) made me laugh. Really? As Mayor Garrad Marsh says, "Because it's a general tax," the council "can't guarantee" how money will be spent. He is saying, pass it and we'll read it later.

If they really get down to business and cut all the unnecessary expenses, cut their pay, un-fund programs that are not necessary for us to support, and leave the fire and police alone, then maybe the public might trust their elected officials.

Why pass a road tax? I thought our gas taxes were to pay for roads.

Reach somewhere else. Our pockets are empty — and this goes for every county and city asking for more. Wise up, Modesto, and say "no." It has to stop somewhere.
