ACE train to Merced in under a year

August 1, 2013

I would like to thank you all for a good laugh on July 7 ("ACE eyes fast track for extending service to Modesto, Turlock, Merced").

Fast track for a commuter line to Merced from Stockton is nine years?

We could have commute service in six months to a year from Stockton to Merced. The Amtrak route has almost everything in place. Flip the switch in Stockton to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe line. Take the $200 million to build a new line, let BNSF have it to double track from Stockton to Merced and eliminate ground level crossings. While BNSF is building this new line, we would have commute trains to San Jose.

Have BNSF do the work and keep government out of it or it will become a half built mess, like all the messes in this state.
