Preliminary hearing set for man accused in Waterford death

local@modbee.comJuly 30, 2013

— A judge on Tuesday scheduled a preliminary hearing to start Nov. 1 for a defendant accused of shooting to death a 27-year-old man three years ago in Waterford.

Jose Luis Solis Jr., 33, of Waterford is charged with murder in the death of Billy Miller, who was shot in the chest. His preliminary hearing is expected to last one day.

At the conclusion of the hearing, the judge will determine whether there is enough evidence for Solis to stand trial.

On May 14, 2010, Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies found Miller dead at an apartment complex near Dorsey and E streets.

Authorities have said Miller and Solis knew each other, and they were fighting before the shooting. The defendant remains in custody at the Stanislaus County Jail.
