Bakersfield Blaze uses long ball to defeat Modesto Nuts

sports@modbee.comJuly 30, 2013

— The Modesto Nuts’ early 3-0 lead vanished in a wave of Bakersfield Blaze home runs en route to an 8-6 California League loss Tuesday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Starting pitcher Dan Winkler (12-5) yielded a solo shot to Steve Selsky, a two-run homer to Kyle Waldrop and three-run homer in the fifth by Juan Duran that put the Blaze in front 6-4 and finished Winkler’s night.

Harold Riggins slugged his 17th home run for the Nuts, who struck out 13 times.

They’ll seek the rubber game of the three-game Bakersfield series tonight, followed by an off day and Friday’s beginning of a 3-game series against Stockton at John Thurman Field in Modesto.
