ATWATER — The Save Mart in Atwater held a free health screening as part of the grocery chain's yearlong campaign to "BEAT" heart disease among women.
During Tuesday's event, on-site nurses administered screenings for body mass index, blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol, according to a press release. Free consultations with a Save Mart pharmacist also were available.
Those who were screened received a bag of heart-healthy samples and BEAT branded items.
Participants were invited to spin a prize wheel for a chance to win additional items.
Save Mart, along with its partners, has committed to raising more than $400,000 this year to help increase awareness and foster education about the risks of heart disease.
According to Save Mart's BEAT Heart Disease website, one out of every three women will die of heart disease which is more deaths than all forms of cancer combined.
Those interested in supporting the campaign can provide a donation at www.savemart.com or in stores at checkout. The campaign is in collaboration with the American Heart Association and Go Red for Women movement to combat the disease.
