Nuts beat Blaze, 4-2 on road trip

July 29, 2013

— The Modesto Nuts' first two batters greeted Bakersfield Blaze starter Robert Stephenson with fireworks — a double by David Kandilas and a home run by Tyler Massey.

The Nuts parlayed that fast start into a 6-0 lead after 2½ innings Monday night, more than enough to coast home with a 7-3 victory at windy Sam Lynn Ballpark. The win improved Modesto's record to 4-2 on its road trip.

Jared Simon also swatted a 2-run homer to support starter Chris Jensen (4-6), who went seven strong innings. Relievers William Rankin and Nelson Gonzalez finished with scoreless innings.
