Modesto bullpen falters

July 27, 2013

— Eddie Butler blanked the Visalia Rawhide through five innings Saturday night, and the Modesto Nuts carried a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth.

Butler then handed the ball to the Nuts bullpen. It was a good move — for Rawhide fans.

Visalia pounded Modesto relievers for nine runs over the next three innings, anchored by David Peralta's grand slam, to drop the Nuts 9-4 at Recreation Park.

Geoff Parker (4-5) faced only four batters but was cuffed for three runs in the sixth. An inning later, Nelson Gonzalez yielded the slam to Peralta.

The Nuts took a 2-0 lead in the sixth on Brian Humphries' 2-run double to center. Trevor Story's 2-run homer in the ninth ended the scoring.

Modesto seeks a win tonight in the rubber game of the three-game series.
