The shooting of a young trespasser by a homeowner once again brings up the tragic consequences of gun owners taking the law into their own hands and apparently reacting excessively.
There was no mention that the confrontation between the two men was in any way violent. As I understand California law under these circumstances, lethal force can be used by a homeowner only inside the home and with the provision that bodily harm or the perception of bodily harm is imminent to him or his family.
There are remedies for trespassers and thieves. The taking of a life for a property crime isn't one of them in a civilized society.
