— The Modesto Nuts' 9-0 lead melted to 9-7 Friday night before they stabilized for an 11-7 California League victory over Visalia.

Ryan Casteel slugged his 21st homer, a two-run shot in the fourth while Modesto built its big advantage. Ryan Humphries also homered in the first and both David Kandilas and Taylor Featherston had three hits to support starter Ben Allsup (7-8). The Rawhide put the tying runs on base in the eighth, however, until reliever Kraig Sitton entered and got the final six outs. Empowered by Modesto's two insurance runs in the ninth, Sitton ended the game with three straight strikeouts.

Niko Gallego contributed to Modesto's 14-hit attack with a two-run double in the third.
