Modesto man charged with robbing 2 banks

— A federal grand jury Thursday returned an indictment charging a Modesto man with two counts of bank robbery stemming from incidents last spring.

According to United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner, Troy Foster Mitchell, 47, faces the federal charges in connection with robberies of the Valley First Credit Union in Modesto on May 14 and the Bank of the West in Stockton on May 31.

If convicted, Mitchell faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
