Focus on Education: San Joaquin Valley College accreditation reaffirmed

The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges has reaffirmed its accreditation of San Joaquin Valley College. The private junior college has 12 campuses in California, including its Modesto campus, with a Salida address, that opened in 2004. The campus offers associate's degrees and certificates in the business, medical, pharmacy, massage and industrial arts fields, with costs of $15,500 for certificates and $29,750 for degrees.

FINANCIAL LESSONS: Credit card comparison site CompareCards.com has created financial lesson plans for educators, free to download, for grades K-12. The upper-grade lesson plans are about an hour in length, with kindergarten through fifth grade slightly shorter. All lesson plans come with a quiz. Students tend to have credit card debt with multiple credit cards, with the average debt of a new graduate at about $4,000, according to company statistics. STANISLAUS UNION STUDY, TOUR SET: The Stanislaus Union School District Board will hold a special study session at 6 p.m. Aug. 6 on the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) Budget Study Session in Room 11 of the district office, 2410 Janna Ave. A special board tour of facilities will begin at 7 a.m. Aug. 9 at Chrysler Elementary.
