Detectives seek man seen with Modesto woman before murder

Briggs Homicide

Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department Detectives have been investigating the homicide that occurred earlier this week in the 500 Block of Briggs Avenue. The Victim has been positively identified as Rachel Anne Ortega, 27 years old out of Modesto. The Homicide was reported at approximately 6:30 am on July 21, 2013. Ortega had been seen with an unidentified male subject the day prior to the homicide. Detectives are asking for assistance in identifying him and locating him for questioning.

— The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department has identified a woman who was killed early Sunday as Rachel Anne Ortega, 27, of Modesto.

Her body was discovered in a carport in the 500 block of Briggs Avenue about 6:30 a.m. The residents of the home are cooperating with detectives and did not know about the body until notified by detectives.

Detectives said Ortega appears to be a transient.

They are looking for a man she was seen with at Vintage Faire Mall last week. The two were visible on surveillance video. The man is not a suspect, but detectives wish to speak with him regarding Ortega.

Detectives are treating Ortega's death as a homicide but have not released her cause of death.
