Success & Service: Stanislaus library honors its volunteers with stars

The Stanislaus Library Foundation presented its 2013 Shining Star Awards to volunteers who serve at the various branches.

The honorees: Clare Noonan, for her fund-raising efforts through the Friends of the Modesto Library; Peter La Torre, for recruiting volunteers for the Measure T campaign in Patterson; Bev Finley and Scott Monday, who co-led the successful countywide Save Stanislaus Library campaign; Turlock's HyPower Hydraulics, for its sorting and storage space for the Friends of the Turlock Library's annual used book sale; and the Waterford News for its ongoing support of the Waterford Library through news stories and photos. Richard Hagerty, a retired foundation board member, received the Joan Patterson Stellar Achievement Award.

Bradford L. Smith of Modesto is the new district deputy to the Elks National president for lodges in the Central District of the California-Hawaii Elks Association. He was installed during the 149th Elks national convention in Reno and will serve a one-year term.
