— A new restaurant has opened in north Modesto, and it's already developing some big fans.

JP's Asian Fusion opened at the beginning of the month, according to Jason Gao, who owns the restaurant with his uncle, Ping Chang.

It's on Pelandale Avenue, in front of Costco.

A couple of folks have asked me if I have been there, describing a restaurant that is lovely and spacious, with food that lives up to the décor.

The family also owns Be Wok & Sushi in Sonora.

So far, Gao said, the reception in Modesto has been good. He said specialties include a sushi bar and teriyaki, and the restaurant in general serves "Asian-style Chinese food."

The interior was a major undertaking, Gao said. "We took almost eight months" to get everything ready.

JP Asian Fusion, at 3801 Pelandale Ave., Suite E3, is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. (209) 543-8188.

Looking for work? A job fair is set Tuesday at the Clarion Inn, 1612 Sisk Road. Sponsored by KOVR 13, Telemundo 33, Cumulus Media and Job Journal, the event will go from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, go to or call (888) 843-5627.

Work World has taken over the site of a former Blockbuster on Standiford Avenue. Offering "clothes that work as hard as you do," Work World was founded in Canada in 1978 and is dedicated to serving the work and casual clothing needs of all working people, according to its website.

The company, now based in Vacaville, has locations in California and Nevada. Previously, the closest stores to Modesto were in Merced and Stockton.

And finally, speaking of work wear, this week a press release landed in our inboxes here at The Bee that answered a question so many, no doubt, have had for years: Which law enforcement uniform is the most attractive?

According to the folks at, 1,000 people they surveyed for this important issue voted our own California Highway Patrol No. 1, beating their colleagues in Texas by nearly 6 percentage points.

Not knowing what exactly was, I checked into the website. It is what it says — a dating site "for singles in uniform and those who like them."

What does the CHP uniform have going for it? A blue stripe that looks like a "sky on a sunny day" and a lighter color "less threatening" than the traditional black or navy.

So now you know.
