Modesto Nuts edged by San Jose

— The San Jose Giants scored in the bottom of the eighth inning to edge the Modesto Nuts 1-0 on Friday.

The Giants' Mac Williamson doubled to score Kelby Tomlinson (single) to break the 2-2 tie.

The Nuts scored both their runs in the sixth on Brian Humphries' two-out, two-run single. Tyler Massey had two hits.

Kraig Sitton took the loss for Modesto. Starter Chris Jensen gave up just three hits, striking out nine, in five innings.

The Nuts open a home series tonight with Rancho Cucamonga at 7 p.m. That game will be preceded by a Wounded Warriors amputee softball game with the Stanislaus Seniors at 4 p.m. at John Thurman Field.
