Wounded Warriors softball arrives in style

July 19, 2013

The Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team, featured two years ago on HBO, received a warm welcome in Modesto ahead of its exhibition game this afternoon at John Thurman Field.

The squad is made up of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who have lost limbs during their service. The athletes received a motorcycle escort from Sacramento International Airport to Modesto on Friday thanks to the Chrome Cowboys, bikers who also served in the military.

Making their first Northern California appearance, the team will play the Stanislaus Senior Softball Association players in a 4 p.m. start at John Thurman Field prior to the Modesto Nuts' game against Rancho Cucamonga.
