July 18, 2013

— Three people were arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting after Turlock's SWAT team served search warrants at homes in Modesto and Patterson Wednesday.

The drive-by shooting occurred June 23 in the 600 block of Birchwood Way. No one was injured.

The search warrants were served at 7:20 a.m. in the 1100 block of Almaden Way in south Modesto and at 4 p.m. in the 600 block of Pine Creek Drive in Patterson.

During the search of the Patterson home, investigators seized two stolen firearms, marijuana, evidence of marijuana sales and cultivation, and about $2,000 in cash. An additional two pounds of marijuana was found in a car owned by Leonardo Ortiz, 20.

He and his brother Jose Ortiz, 22, were arrested on suspicion of discharging a firearm in a gross and negligent manner stemming from the drive-by shooting, sales and cultivation of marijuana and possession of stolen property as a result of the search warrant.

A third suspect, 32-year-old Juan Carlos Alvarez, was arrested Thursday morning in downtown Modesto. He, too, was arrested on suspicion of discharging a firearm in a gross and negligent manner.

Anyone with information regarding the suspects is urged to call Detective Tim Redd at (209) 664-7325.
