Hooker's sentence will stop sexual predator

July 18, 2013

James Hooker will never be a teacher again and, as a registered sex offender, also should be prevented from having the opportunity to prey on other teenage girls.

That and the misdemeanor conviction are, we believe, a satisfactory resolution to this case that once again drew unfortunate national attention to our community.

Also, we applaud the courage of the woman who was victimized by Hooker in 1998, when she was 17, and who finally stepped forward to tell police and to testify against him.
