Residents should have intervened

July 17, 2013

"What ifs" abound, but one "what if" seems to be absent from consideration: What if one of the residents had interfered a moment prior to a shot being fired? A concerned citizen willing to pull a child off the neighborhood watchman whose futile screams garnered nothing more than calls to 911. The intervention might have resulted in (1) the preservation of a life and (2) the child's arrest for aggravated assault that resulted in a broken nose for a neighborhood watchman.
