Perfect pros pay off for local bowlers

— Lennie Anderson of Tuolumne won the Adult Pro-Am of the Vanessa Brown Homes Pro-Am Tournament at Yosemite with a score of 1,763.

Anderson rolled an 863 set and added a 900 for the pro's score for the win and $350.

Atwater's Carol Almeida was second at 1,719. She also picked up a 900 from her pro and contributed 819. Willie Higle of Modesto was third after he rolled an 851 and added an 862 from the pro for a 1,713 total.

Jackie Wilson won the Senior Pro-Am with a 1,738 set. Her pro scores totaled 878 and she added 860 to take first. Bob Gomes from Snelling rolled an 888 and his pro scores were 841 for second at 1,729. San Leandro's Jim Bell was third with an 837.

Kevin Wix Jr. won the $100 scholarship for taking first in the Junior Pro-Am. He rolled an 821 and his pro contributed 878 for a 1,699 total. Peter Kennedy with an excellent 864, but his pro rolled only a 789 for a 1,653 total.

Lina Carlson, Ann Zuidema and Anja DeBoer rolled a 2,228 total to win the Ladies No-Tap Luncheon at Yosemite. Kathy Burner, Claudelle Bonaccinie and Alice Lazzerini were second (2,130) with Keri Pamer, Roxanne Grubb and Jan Rupp Vigneau in third (2,092).

The Mixed Kegler Trio Tournament is Thursday at McHenry at 9:30 a.m. Teams can be any combination of men and women. Build your own team or come alone and join a team.

Friday's Senior No-Tap Tournament starts at 1 p.m. at McHenry, preceded by a potluck at noon.

The Black Oak Classic League at McHenry is the longest running scratch league in Modesto. It started its 54 year run when McHenry opened in 1959. The league is going into its 55th year with a change. It traditionally bowled in the 9 p.m. slot on Thursdays, but this September moves up to 7 p.m.

The annual open meeting of the Modesto USBC is Sunday at Yosemite at 11 a.m. Applications are available at the bowling centers for president, vice president and eight directors; they're due today. Elections are Sunday.

Only two weekends are left to bowl in the 64th annual Peach Classic at McHenry. There is a $20,000 prize fund with a $2,000 first-place pay-off. Even 100th place pays $100. It is a five-game handicap tournament moving lanes after the second and third games. There are seven different prize lists with one entry fee of $50. Call the bowl to hold a spot at 571-2695.
