BY-AREA ELECTIONS: Proposals for by-area trustee elections in Empire and Hughson will be the subject of public hearings Tuesday before the Stanislaus County Committee on School District Organization. Each will include an explanation by legal counsel and speakers for and against the proposal before a vote is taken. The hearing for the Empire Union School District will be at 4 p.m at the district boardroom, 116 N. McClure Road. The hearing for the Hughson Unified School District will follow at 5:30 p.m. at its boardroom, 6815 Hughson Ave. The switch would take effect next year.

STAN UNION TO MEET: The Stanislaus Union School District board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in Room 11 of the district office, 2410 Janna Ave. Trustees will hear a report on student physical fitness tests and an update on facilities, with a tour scheduled for 7 a.m. Aug. 9 beginning at Chrysler School. The board will consider preschool plans, a five-year, $3 million plan for new curriculum and restoring professional dues for administrators for $10,000.
