Lancaster thumps Modesto Nuts

July 13, 2013

— Modesto Nuts pitcher Chris Jensen lasted just two-thirds of inning as the Lancaster JetHawks scored five times in the first en route to a 10-6 victory Saturday night.

Jensen gave up six hits, a walk and five earned runs before he was lifted in favor of Nelson Gonzalez, who was able to put out the flames.

Gonzalez gave up just one hit in 31/3 innings as the Nuts struck for three in the second and two more in the third to get Jensen off the hook.

Taylor Featherston, who was 2-for-4 on the night, had his eighth homer of the season during the comeback.

But after a scoreless fourth, Lancaster pulled away again with three in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Game 2 of this three-game set is today at 5 p.m. The teams wrap up the series with 7 p.m. game on Monday. After a day off Tuesday, the Nuts are in San Jose for a three-gamer.
