A "person of interest" in a homicide in rural Calaveras County was arrested after a pursuit that started in Lodi and ended in Sacramento on Thursday evening.

Gary F. McMahan, 31, was wanted for questioning in connection with an attack on a man and woman at a home in West Point on Tuesday. He has not been charged with any crime associated with the homicide but had two felony warrants from Amador County and also was arrested on suspicion of evading, according to Sgt. Chris Hewitt.

Details on the attack are scarce, but Hewitt said deputies were called to a home in the 200 block of Stanley Road at 11:25 a.m. The caller said two people had been found unconscious and bleeding.

One of them, 45-year-old Norman Gresham III, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second, a 37-year-old woman, was taken to an area hospital.

Hewitt said the relationship between the victims had not been determined. Investigators are not saying how Gresham died.
