Nuts' pitcher Winkler rocked in Cal League loss to Bakersfield

July 10, 2013

— The Modesto Nuts tried to make it three in a row under new manager Fred Nelson, but fell 6-2 to Bakersfield at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

With the scored tied 1-1 , Bakersfield's Chirs Berset led off the home half of the third with a homer off Nuts starter Dan Winkler (11-3), who then walked leadoff man Juan Silva. Junior Arias followed with a double to score Silva and Juan Silverio reached on an error by Nuts right fielder Jared Simon — Silverio advanced to second and Arias to third — and a single to center by Blaze first baseman Steve Selsky plated Silverio and Arias to make it 5-1.

Winkler gave up six hits and five runs — three eanred — in five innings of work.

Juan Crousset homered for Modesto in the fourth.
