Highway 59 construction project will hinder some traffic

July 8, 2013

Rolfe Construction, in partnership with the city of Merced, will close Gerard Avenue at Highway 59 in both directions for sewer main installation.

The roadway closure will take place 7 a.m. July 8, and the road will reopen for traffic by 4 p.m. July 10. Northbound and southbound traffic on Highway 59 will remain in operation at all times, but access to Gerard Avenue will be prohibited, according to a news release.

Officials remind drivers to follow the advance warning signs and detour arrows that will guide them around the project's vicinity. Drivers should expect 10-minute delays and should take alternate routes whenever possible.

The work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to weather, availability of equipment and-or materials,

construction-related issues, and traffic incidents, according to the news release.

For the safety of the workers and other motorists, officals remind drivers to slow down for the construction zone.

Rolfe Construction and the city of Merced would like to thank residents in advance for their patience and cooperation during the project.
