Want to seek office? Modesto program offers advice

local@modbee.comJuly 7, 2013

— A free workshop will be offered July 13 on how to run for public office. It is aimed at citizens who are considering running for one of the offices to be filled in the Nov. 5 election or in later years.

The program will be from 8:45 a.m. to noon at the Modesto Chamber of Commerce, 1114 J St. Speakers will talk about walking and knocking on doors, asking for donations, using social media, and preparing for candidate forums and interviews. There will be a primer on the Fair Political Practices financial reporting requirements.

People are asked to sign up by Wednesday by contacting the chamber office at (209) 577-5757 or email mlopez@modchamber.org.

The workshop is organized by representatives of the chamber, The Modesto Bee, the Stanislaus County Library, the League of Women Voters of Stanislaus County, and longtime leaders in the Democratic and Republican parties.

Modesto Bee is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
