Long ball carries Ports past Nuts

July 6, 2013

— Rashun Dixon provided the only runs Stockton needed with a three-run homer in the second inning that carried the host Ports to a 3-2 victory over the Modesto Nuts Saturday night at Banner Island Ballpark. Dixon's two-out blast spoiled an otherwise strong performance by Modesto starter Eddie Butler (3-2), who allowed four hits in five innings and struck out nine while walking one. Modesto struck first with two runs in the top of the second inning, courtesy of a Tim Smalling RBI single and a wild pitch, but it would be all the offense the Nuts would muster. Ports starter James Simmons (6-3) allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings while striking out seven.
