Volunteers, supplies and financial support are needed for the Homeless Veteran Stand Down planned for Sept. 19-21 at the American Legion Hall, 1001 S. Santa Cruz Ave., Modesto.

The stand down is open to all homeless, at-risk and female veterans in Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Tuolumne, Mariposa and Merced counties. The purpose of the stand down is to provide veterans and their families access to local community and government services, including health care, housing, employment and education.

Veterans will receive meals, clothing, personal items, showers, haircuts and a safe place to stay during the event. There will be medical, dental, vision and mental health services available on site.

Representatives from the Stanislaus County court system will be available to help veterans resolve outstanding misdemeanor and traffic offenses. All donations are tax-deductible and will be used for the stand down, organizers say.
