Cooler times ahead; in valley low 90s will seem like a cold snap

July 4, 2013

— Area residents will get a little relief from the heat starting today. After several days of triple-digit heat that contributed to at least one fatality — that of a 77-year-old Ceres man Tuesday — today's high in Modesto is expected to reach just 94, and the rest of the weekend's highs should be within a degree or two of that, forecasters say.

Downtown Modesto reached a high of 105 degrees Thursday. Highs in the greater area were 107 in Ceres and Turlock and 110 in Los Banos.

Highs well into next week also are forecast to peak in the mid-90s. To really escape the heat, though, Yosemite National Park appears the place to go. From a high of 101 on Thursday, the expected highs are 78 today and 72 on Saturday, according to Weather Underground.

For those staying within Stanislaus, the county offers heat information at www.stanemergency.com and encourages residents to follow it on Facebook and Twitter at StanEmergency.
