• CENTER FOR HUMAN SERVICES
NEEDED: Volunteers aged 13 to 17 are needed to serve as defense and prosecution attorneys, jury members, bailiffs and court clerks. The Youth Court process offers first-time juvenile defendants who have admitted responsibility for their offense an opportunity to have their case heard by a jury of their peers with an adult volunteer judge experienced in juvenile law presiding. Adult volunteers 18 and older, who are knowledgeable of the law, are also needed to act as judges to preside over the court and serve as mentors to assist volunteer attorneys with trial preparation. The court sessions are usually held during the evening bimonthly on Wednesdays in Modesto and on the third Tuesday in Oakdale.

• HAVEN WOMEN'S CENTER OF STANISLAUS
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older to assist victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Haven provides shelter and support services for women and their children affected by domestic violence, assists victims with temporary restraining orders, and provides support and advocacy to survivors of sexual assault. Volunteer opportunities can include trauma response advocacy (hospital response to domestic violence and sexual assault victims), shelter and crisis line advocacy, child and youth programs, a legal program and staffing prevention information tables. Haven will conduct a required 80-hour training series for potential volunteers Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. from July 22 to Sept. 12. Those interested must sign up before July 18, but registration can close at 25 confirmed applicants. The training application is available on the agency's website at http://hwcstan.squarespace.com. Trainees must be over 18 years old and pass a fingerprint background check. Spouses, partners, friends, family members, classmates and roommates must attend separate training series.

• INTER-FAITH MINISTRIES
NEEDED: Volunteers 16 and older are needed to help provide food and clothing to needy individuals and families on weekdays. Warehouse volunteers pick up, receive, sort and distribute food to clients; Food Pantry volunteers interview clients, offer support and referrals, bag grocery orders and stock shelves; and Clothes Closet volunteers sort clothing and assist in the community clothes closet. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., depending on the position. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, or 16 to 17 years old with parental permission, and be able to lift at least 25 to 40 pounds, depending on the position.

• STANISLAUS ANIMAL SERVICES AGENCY
NEEDED: Volunteers 16 and older are needed to socialize, exercise and care for adoptable animals and assist the public with adoptions at the shelter. Flexible shifts are available Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Foster care volunteers provide a nurturing home for kittens and-or puppies until they are ready for adoption. The Foster Care opportunity is available for volunteers of all ages (younger than 18 years with a parent). All volunteers must have a basic knowledge of animal care and animal handling experience, complete an application process and attend an orientation.

• YOUTH FOR CHRIST CENTRAL VALLEY
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older, or 17 years for school-based mentoring, are needed to make a difference in the life of an at-risk child. Multiple mentoring opportunities are available for adult volunteers. Mentors enrich their own lives while sharing everyday activities with kids such as movies, homework, sports, shopping, life skills, leadership development, engaging in conversation and more. Hours are typically after school or on the weekend, but are set up by the mentor and student. Volunteers must complete an application, interview, orientation and training process; provide references; pass a background check; and commit to volunteering at least four hours per month for 12 months, depending upon the program.

• SUTTER GOULD MEDICAL FOUNDATION
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older and junior volunteers 16 years and older with customer service skills to serve as greeters, help with our coffee cart and perform various tasks. All volunteers should have excellent people skills, enjoy interaction with patients and be a self-starter. Bilingual ability is a plus, but not required. There are many opportunities in areas such as pediatrics, Briggsmore specialty and oncology. Volunteer hours are Monday through Friday, flexible schedule from 7:30 to 4:30 p.m. Applications can be picked up at the information desk at 600 Coffee Road from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Adult applicants will need TB and background clearance and junior applicants will need a TB clearance.
