The Modesto Symphony Orchestra's 2013-14 season its 83rd will feature iconic music pieces, guest artists and the return of one of Modesto's brightest Broadway stars.
Jeremy Stolle most recently appearing in "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway will return to his hometown of Modesto to take part in the MSO's Holiday Pops program in December.
As in past seasons, MSO will offer a Classic Series and a Pops Series, with subscription tickets now on sale. Tickets for individual shows go on sale Aug. 1.
Subscriptions for the Classic Series are $73-$406; the Pop Series are $45-$258. Also available: a package that includes both series for $114-$632; or a flexible subscription that allows you to pick your own concerts for $59-$332.
Concerts are at the Gallo Center for the Arts, with the exception of the annual Holiday Candlelight Concert set for Dec. 17 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church; and the season opening Picnic at the Pops concerts, Sept. 7 on the E&J Gallo Winery grounds.
This year's Picnic at the Pops program features a Classical Mystery Tour: A Tribute to the Beatles. The tribute band will play the music of the Beatles while performing with the MSO.

Latin Fire Oct. 4-5: The Axiom Brass Quintet joins conductor David Lockington and the MSO for the music of Copland, Egea, Velasco and Chavez.
Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 Nov. 8-9: Pianist John Hillebrandt takes center stage for the famed Beethoven piece, as well as a selection from Rossini and the world premiere of Hillebrandt's own Piano Concerto.
Brahms & Tchaikovsky Feb. 14-15: Violinist Dylana Jenson joins a side-by-side performance of the MSO with the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra to play the music of Glinka, Brahms, Mozart and Tchaikovsky.
Boccherini & Bach April 11-12: Cello prodigy Julian Schwarz plays selections by Handel, Boccherini, Bach and Albinoni.
Brahms' Requiem May 9-10: The Modesto Symphony Chorus joins the MSO for this piece and compositions by Brahms and Bruckner.
Holiday Pops! Returning Home for the Holidays Dec. 6-7: Stolle will be back for this annual holiday program of Christmas classics, carols and medleys.
Dave Bennett's Clarinet Swing Kings March 14: The Dave Bennett Sextet and vocalist Carol McCartney salute jazz music.
Dancing & Romancing May 30: Broadway performers Joan Hess and Kirby Ward offer an evening of dance and song featuring Gershwin and Rodgers & Hammerstein.

Carnage Asada Film Festival at the State
Grindhouse-style films as well as experimental cinema will be show as part of the independent Carnage Asada Film Festival, to be held Saturday at the State Theatre in Modesto.
Two full-length films and several short films will make up the program. Among the films screened will be "Oscar's Theme 2, The Wrath of Lezbianka" and "Cinco de Mayo."

Singles to Mingle at the State Theatre
This month's Singles Mingle program features a Mediterranean Night with the Desert Wind Dancers at the State Theatre in Modesto.
The event this Wednesday offers entertainment, food and a raffle and is a chance for single people to meet up at the downtown venue.

Classic 'Jaws' back on the big screen
The Modesto Film Society Cinema Club presents "Jaws" on Tuesday at the State Theatre in downtown Modesto.
The Steven Spielberg classic stars Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss as they embark on a quest to find the man-eating shark that's invested the waters of their seaside community.
