'Aida' on screen

The State Theatre offers a captured-live performance from Teatro alla Scala to bring Verdi's drama "Aida" to the big screen. The screening is part of the State's Summer Opera in Cinema Series. It will be shown in Italian with English subtitles.

Arts and crafts

The 41st annual Sierra Nevada Arts and Crafts Festival promises more than 65 booths in the Mother Lode town of Arnold. This summer-opening fest is a showcase of local artists who create their crafts, artwork, food and more to show and sell.

If you missed all the bombs bursting in air last night, good news: There's one more chance to celebrate your patriotic spirit. A fireworks display presented by the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors will take to the skies over Woodward Reservoir on Saturday night. Attendees should plan to stay inside the park until fireworks end. Upon reaching capacity, the park will be closed to all inbound traffic.

MoBand finale

The final concert in this year's MoBand season will feature an "It's Party Time" theme. The concert will offer favorites from this summer's Modesto Band of Stanislaus County selections. Guests are invited to arrive early to spread out their blankets, then bring back their picnic dinners to enjoy the music.
