— A Watsonville man identified as a suspect in a June 27 bank robbery in Modesto has been arrested. Jose Garcia, 22, was taken into custody in Watsonville on June 28.

He has been booked at the Stanislaus County Jail on a charge of robbery, according to a news release from Modesto police Sgt. Rick Applegate on Tuesday.

About 11:15 a.m. June 27, two men entered Farmers & Merchants Bank in the 900 block of Carpenter Road. They brandished handguns and demanded money from bank employees.

The two men were seen fleeing the scene in a white Mercedes-Benz that later was found a short distance from the bank.

Modesto police detectives are in the process of identifying additional robbers and are asking anyone with information about the crime to call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward. Tipsters can text information to Crime Stoppers by sending a message to 274637.
