Family nights promote fun, unity in south Modesto

— Community Family Fun Nights return Friday evenings in July at the Apostolic Jubilee Center in south Modesto.

The nights are a collaborative effort of the center, Modesto City Schools, United Hands, Latino Community Roundtable, first responders, law enforcement, the American Red Cross and other community organizations. There will be entertainment and food for all families in attendance.

"Our goal is to build positive relationships with the community, work together as a community and provide educational, health and community support services," said organizer Jorge Perez.

July 5: Community Safety

Modesto Police Department, Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department and Probation Department, California Highway Patrol, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Modesto Regional Fire Authority, American Red Cross and Life Touch will provide resources and information on safety. MPD will provide a K-9 demonstration and the community will be able to meet Sheriff Adam Christianson and MPD Chief Galen Carroll.

July 12: Community Resource Fair

Thirty county, local and community-based organizations will provide resources and information on education, health and community support services.

July 19: Health and Fitness Night

Golden Valley Health Centers and Health Net will provide basic health screenings. In-Shape Health Clubs will provide information and in a collaborative effort with Blood Source, there will be a blood drive in the South Side Community. A Team Fitness will provide cross and core fitness demonstrations.

July 26: Kids Day

Fun activities will be offered for children and families.
