Ruling on Del Rio well in Modesto put off until fall

— A judge's ruling regarding a new well for the Del Rio community north of Modesto will wait until October.

The $6 million project was halted when neighbors of the well site, a half mile from the exclusive hamlet, sued out of fear that the deeper well could compete for a groundwater supply relied upon by their homes and ranches.

A 2005 legal settlement requires Modesto to upgrade Del Rio's water system.

A hearing initially scheduled for Friday was moved to Oct. 25 to give attorneys more  preparation time.
