Hundreds turn out to give blood in Modesto

June 28, 2013

— Three hundred fifty-one donors — almost all of them Latino — made Delta Blood Bank's 'Dia De Donar Sangre de Univision' drive at Three Amigos Auto Center in Modesto a smash success Friday.

The drive also had a Stockton location, which brought out 248 donors, so the day's total draw was just shy of 600 pints, said blood drive coordinator Liz Garcia.

The Latino population is predominantly O-positive, Garcia said, which is the most common blood type and as such is always in demand.

"One pint of blood can help save up to three lives," she said, adding that all blood collected in Stanislaus stays with medical facilities within the county.

Garcia said the drive at Three Amigos went smoothly, with short waits and plenty to help donors enjoy the day, including music, food and kids' activities.
