I read the letter "Don't put gay fathers on a pedestal," (June 18, Opinions) and kudos go to the author. Somehow we need to get back to the basics.
Can we remember what happened to the Roman Empire and the Greeks when their alternative lifestyles were allowed to take over their societies? Where did they end up?
"Our country was built on good morals and work ethic and a quality education," the letter writer said. Our children have their hands and heads full of so many do's and don't's, we parents need to set aside our grievances and preferences and concentrate on their needs for their sake.
All this hullabaloo about "my rights" isn't going to mean a thing in 100 years, unless it takes us down with the Romans and the Greeks.
Let's get back to the basics and give our children a country they can be proud of and a desire to make it better than it has ever been.
