Modesto police seek 2 suspects in takeover-style bank robbery

June 27, 2013

Modesto police are looking for two people involved in a takeover-style bank robbery in west Modesto on Thursday morning.

The robbery occurred at the Farmers & Merchants Bank at 901 N. Carpenter Road at about 11:12 a.m., said to Sgt. Rick Applegate.

Two armed suspects entered the bank and ordered six employees and customers to the ground. They left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Applegate said an employee with a pre-existing heart condition requested an ambulance after the ordeal but was found to be OK.

The bank stayed closed throughout the day, and customers who walked up to the front door were stopped short by a traffic cone in front of them and a note reading, "Due to an emergency the bank is closed."

Both suspects were wearing masks and hooded sweat shirts.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636. Tipsters can email through the Crime Stoppers website, www.stancrimetips.org, or text tips to CRIMES (274637) by typing "Tip704" plus a message. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward.
