Mobile homes near Newman evacuated by grass fire

— Homes were evacuated east of Newman on Friday evening for a vegetation fire along the San Joaquin River.

Local law enforcement assisted firefighters in evacuating Martins Mobile Court on River Road between Hills Ferry and Azevedo roads.

It was unknown Friday night how many people were affected, but the mobile home park has about 20 lots. The fire started about 5:30 p.m.

Agencies battling the blaze included Newman Fire Department, West Stanislaus Fire District, Turlock Rural Fire and Keyes Fire District.
