Adopt a dog, get bonus gift at Stanislaus Animal Services

— People who adopt a pooch from the Stanislaus Animal Services Agency will take home a little something extra — a pet health kit from Sergeant's — while supplies last.

Last Friday, through Sergeant's emBARK on Pet Health campaign, the agency received 500 kits, which contain pet care products: Fur So Fresh shampoo "for stinky dogs," a dog toothbrush and toothpaste, a Sentry calming collar and more. The kit is a $50 value, according to Sergeant's.

The adoption fee for dogs is $90, plus license; the fee includes a rabies vaccination, DHPP, microchip and spay-neuter.

Also at the county's animal services center, June is Adopt A Shelter Cat month. All "senior" shelter cats (5 years and older) will be adopted to senior citizens (50 and older) for free; all cat and kitten adoptions are only $15; and all cat owners can buy a spay-neuter voucher at the reduced cost of $40. It can be redeemed at participating veterinarian offices.
