— San Francisco Giants pitcher Jeremy Affeldt will be in Modesto on Friday to dedicate the Jeremy Affeldt Junior Giants Field in Enslen Park.

The facility features new vinyl-coated fencing for the backstops and dugouts, a new irrigation system, fresh infield and outfield sod, improved drainage, a new field for T-ball players, all new concrete dugouts and seating areas, a concrete seat wall and a drinking fountain.

The work was done through the Peter A. Magowan Fields for Kids program. Magowan, former president and managing general partner of the Giants, also will attend the dedication, as will Giants CEO Larry Baer, Giants play-by-play announcer Dave Flemming, Modesto Councilman Dave Lopez and representatives from the Giants Community Fund and Good Tidings Foundation.

The flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, Junior Giants uses baseball as a forum to teach life skills to underserved youth throughout Northern and Central California, Nevada and Oregon.

Friday's dedication ceremony begins at 11 a.m. Enslen Park is at 501 Stoddard Ave. For more on the free Junior Giants youth baseball program, go to
